The MPA is designed to appeal to both recent graduates with limited experience of employment in public sector organizations, as well as middle or senior managers who wish to add further academic skills and qualifications to their existing vocational and practical expertise.
The MPA is organized as a one-year, full-time or a two-year, part-time Masters Qualification. It offers Masters Education in strategic policy and management relating to the public sector, building on and utilizing the existing business and management specialism of the University.
The MPA examines the interrelationship between public, private and voluntary sectors and focuses in particular on the context of the European Union and its interface with the other tiers of governance and administration.
The MPA programme normally features a number of visiting or guest speakers. Each year, the MPA brings together a relatively small group of students from a range of nationalities and with different experiences, together with tutors with past experience of working in the public sector as well as academic expertise.
Drawing on this variety, the programme is varied in its content and style, and is academically challenging and enjoyable. We place great emphasis on working closely with our students and encourage students to learn from each other. Many of our MPA graduates now work in senior public sector positions in countries across the world.

This 12-month programme consists of six taught compulsory modules including Research Skills for Management and three elective modules, followed by a research project carried out over the summer period upon completion of semester two.

Master of Public Administration The MPA equips students for careers throughout all areas of the public services and at all tiers of public administration, local, regional, national and supranational. Most MPA graduates now work in senior public sector positions in countries across the world e.g. the Office of Justice Affairs and the Sarawak Government. Others have continued their studies at MPhil and PhD level.
