课程特征 Course Features:

Our International HRM programme has been designed to meet the requirements of those, including recent graduates, who want to develop their 'people management' knowledge and skills either as HR specialists or as line managers with significant responsibility for the management of people in companies that operate, or wish to operate, across international boundaries.

课程内容 Course Content :

Units: Semester one (Postgraduate Certificate in Management)

In the first semester, the emphasis is on putting the foundations into place: developing understanding of the functions and tools of management such as finance, marketing, operations management and, of course, HRM. There is also the need to appreciate the importance of an organisation's external environment, which as the programme highlights, is international. In addition, a weekly tutorial will help you understand the requirements of studying in the UK at postgraduate level.

•Human Resource Management: critically assesses concepts within organisational behaviour and their relative value to the management of work, whilst analysing the nature of human resource management as a generalist and/or functional area. The evaluation and application of human resource management techniques to business situations will also be explored.

•International Business Environment: by examining the external influences on organisations, this unit relates economic, political and social concepts to the role of managing organisations in the international environment.

•Management Operations: relates key concepts in the management functions of finance, marketing and operations to the role of managing organisations in the global economy.

•Statistics and IT for Managers: critically examines the role and nature of management information systems and exploits software applications in the generation of reports in order to contribute to effective management decision making. It also analyses the role of statistics in decision making through evaluating data sources, manipulation, presentation and interpretation in relation to corporate scenarios.

•Weekly Tutorial to develop study skills at postgraduate level.

Units: Semester two (Postgraduate Diploma)

In the second semester, the focus moves more to the strategic level. As in the first semester, the approach is to develop the relevant knowledge and then apply it via activity-based learning, such as case studies.

•Comparative Employment Relations: explores the understanding and explanation of international variations in the way relationships between employers and employees are regulated, experienced and contested.

•Human Resource Development: focuses on the contribution made by training and related activities to individuals and organisational development.

•International Strategic Management: considers the nature of strategic analysis, decision making and the management of change in different contexts.

•Strategic International Human Resource Management: the main approach of this unit demonstrates how strategic human resource management can impact on the strategic processes driving organisations in an increasingly globalised business environment. Differing levels of strategic thinking are addressed, from the integration of human resources theory, which is related to strategic analysis, planning and action at an organisational level, to mechanisms for integrating personnel and organisational development strategies.

•Research Methods for International HRM: as well as developing your ability to identify appropriate methods for the collection and analysis of data, the assessed piece of work will be the proposal for your project. This will have to be submitted before the end of the semester, so when the second semester finishes your research will be underway. The proposal is clearly structured and is introduced by means of an explanatory workshop.

June - November

Research Project: the dissertation should be of value to you in your career and therefore should be strategic in nature and, where appropriate, could be of significance to a sponsoring organisation. It should demonstrate the ability to integrate theory and practice, as well as your capacity to manage and present (in written form) a substantial piece of work based on in-depth research. A supervisor will be allocated to guide you through the research. Individual tutorials will be arranged to monitor progress and ensure a balance is achieved between academic rigour and practical relevance.

教学与评估 Teaching and Assessment:
This is a full-time programme and you will be expected to attend for two semesters of taught study (semester one runs from October to January, semester two from February to May) and then submit the Research Project by the following November. Assessment will take the form of coursework assignments and/or examinations.
Our learning approach is active, participative, reflective and student-centred. You will be encouraged to develop a strategic awareness and appreciate the role of the HR professional as a business partner. A combination of teaching methods is adopted. Students are expected to make an active contribution to class discussions, as well as make presentations through both team and individual effort. Assignment requirements are specific to each unit, but generally are associated with a piece of coursework and a time-constrained assessment.
职业机会 Career Opportunities: Graduates can look forward to a fulfilling career working in a range of professional business roles including, human resources management and a range of management roles.
