课程内容 Course Features:

You will study six core units in general management and two elective units over the first two terms. In addition, you will study four developmental units, including the Independent Research Paper (8-10,000 words) in the last term, giving you the opportunity to study an International Management issue in depth.

Core course units:
Business Economics
You will demonstrate an understanding of economic analysis and reasoning relevant within a business context. You will gain an appreciation of the economic underpinnings of business strategy through the theory of the firm and markets; evaluate how various models of competitive analysis can be used to assess strategic behaviour; formulate and respond to differing competitive scenarios at the firm level; and apply analytical skills to develop argument and evidence to support evaluations.

Information Systems & Operations Management
In this unit you will cover information systems and operations management as complementary management functions. Firstly, you will explore the critical role played by information systems in today’s business organisations. We will discuss implications of information systems for competitive advantage, the need for business-information systems strategy alignment, and some key management issues in the implementation and use of systems. Secondly, you will learn to appreciate the role of operations management in the delivering products and services to customers. The unit will examine matching supply and demand; different approaches to inventory management (including ERP/MRP); the application of just-in-time techniques; and quality management systems including TQM and ISO9000.

International Accounting and Finance
You will examine accounting and finance from the point of view of managers who use financial information. The unit begins by looking at the types of business entities and how finance is raised in order to set them up and to expand them. You will also study the main types of financial statements presented to outside users such as shareholders, bankers and analysts, and discuss how to interpret financial statements, including the use of ratio analysis. The unit also considers decision-making by managers about their own companies, including cost/volume/profit analysis, and an overview of corporate governance and the entity’s place in financial markets.

International Human Resource Management and Organisational Behaviour
You will evaluate the impact of internal and external factors on the kinds of human resource strategies drawn up by international organisations; investigate the impact of national culture on organisations; consider different methods of recruiting and selecting staff for international management; and understand the nature of knowledge work and the importance of HRM for a knowledge economy. You will also weigh up the pros and cons of varying payment and appraisal systems; investigate the process of cross-border mergers and acquisitions; and examine the HRM issues specific to multinational corporations.

International Marketing
You will gain an understanding of how international marketing fits into the organisation and running of a company or multi-company corporation. The unit has three parts: a general introduction to international marketing; marketing in competitive environments with a primary focus on the ‘success’ of an organisation; and the various points of contact between marketing activities and society.

International Strategy

A fundamental question in strategic management – what determines the international success and failure of companies? – is central to this unit. In the global economy of the 21st century, strategies are no longer the exclusive realm of the senior management team; junior managers and functional specialists are increasingly challenged to think strategically. This unit focuses on the strategic challenges confronting firms which compete in the global marketplace and.examines both the theory and the process that a firm can use to gain competitive advantage and compete successfully internationally.

Developmental Units:
Business Research Methods
