First degree: UK Upper Second Class Honours degree (2:1) or equivalent.

Alternative entry requirements:  Applicants with a first degree below the typical offer may be required to provide a good GMAT (Graduate Management Admissions Test) score. The normal range requested is 550 – 600 depending on your degree result and experience. Further information about GMAT.

Additional entry requirements:
The Royal Holloway MBA is designed for ambitious junior and middle managers wishing to accelerate advancement of their career to the next stage. Therefore, the selection process is rigorous and is aimed at ensuring not only the academic credentials of the applicants but also their attitude to business awareness, team leadership and communicative ability. 
• Students should have at least three years work experience; managerial and entrepreneurial experience is particularly valued.
• All students are also interviewed before an offer is made, with the aim of assessing their leadership potential and level of engagement with MBA objectives. Applicants who cannot attend an interview, such as overseas students, will be interviewed by telephone.
We are looking, in particular, for applicants with experience of:
• demonstrable involvement in shaping managerial decisions that affect events beyond standard daily operational activities
• co-ordinating the work of others in a team
• responsibility for meeting financial targets that rely on the efforts of more than one person
• a requirement to structure and order one’s own work activities over a period of more than one month to solve problems and deliver results
• a defined responsibility for improving the performance of people, processes or technology
• a role that primarily achieves results through influencing others rather than through direct authority.

Furthermore, every applicant who demonstrates a strong entrepreneurial spirit and some track record of business success is considered preferentially.

 IELTS score of 7.0 overall with 6 in writing, TOEFL (iBT) 100 overall with 24 in writing, or equivalent, for non-native English speaking applicants.

Course overview
The Royal Holloway, AMBA accredited MBA is an intensive course designed to equip you with effective management skills, understand management within the global context and develop a network of international associates.

This contemporary course continually evolves with the changing needs of a competitive economic environment and our teaching is based on high quality research, undertaken by academics in the School of Management.

The MBA is purposely structured to allow you to work closely with your fellow students, allowing you to explore and develop your teamwork and leadership capabilities. Core course units:

International Business Economics
You will demonstrate an understanding of economic analysis and reasoning relevant within a business context. You will display an appreciation of the economic underpinnings of business strategy through the theory of the firm and markets; evaluate how various models of competitive analysis can be used to assess strategic behaviour; formulate and respond to differing competitive scenarios at the firm level; and apply presentation and analytical skills to develop argument and evidence to support evaluations.

International Information Systems
You will explore strategic issues in international information systems and ways in which organisations might strengthen their competitive position through the use of well-designed and well-managed information systems. You will examine the concept of an information systems strategy, and the need to align it with business strategies and to evaluate some of the more widely used IS planning frameworks.

International Operations Management
In this unit, you will learn to explain the importance of operations management to the success of an internationally operating organisation. You will identify the challenges posed for the management of an organisation’s operations from operating internationally; analyse the strategic impact of key operations management decision areas in international operations; and explore the likely challenges posed for international operations by potential future changes in the business environment.

International Business Strategy
You will evaluate the factors that need to be considered in analysing a firm’s external environment. You will learn to evaluate the internal core competencies of a firm; formulate strategy for a firm; understand the nature of corporate strategy; and, in addition, understand the nature of international strategy.

Leadership & Behaviour in Organisations
You will gain an understanding of relationships between leadership, management and administration. You will study transactional and transforming leadership; leadership and the management of culture and meaning; groups, teams and organisations; dysfunctional forms of leadership; organisational politics; and business ethics, morality and sustainability. Furthermore, you will also learn about the management of diversity and difference.

International Human Resource Management
In this unit, you will get a detailed understanding of the key analytical concepts and models in international human resource management. You will acquire an understanding of the implications of changes in the global organisation of firms and the international workforce for human resource management policy choices. You will evaluate the different approaches to, and strategies for, managing employees in international business activities.

International Marketing
You will acquire an understanding of the historical development of managerial marketing thought – from its roots in classical economics in the USA to the normative tradition promoted by academics/consultants including Drucker, Levitt and Kotler in journals such as the HBR. You will learn to demonstrate an understanding of popular normative marketing concepts such as the Mix and STP through application in practical case scenarios.

International Accounting & Finance
You will discuss the role of accounting information in external and internal decision making. You will learn to understand the properties of profit and the main techniques for measuring it and will discuss the nature and role of the major financial statements, prepare basic financial statements, and become familiar with different regional and national influences on financial reporting requirements and expectations.

Business Research Methods
You will learn to understand and apply the basic principles underlying ‘good’ business research methodologies – for instance, relevant interviewing and questionnaire survey techniques to gather data. You will be able to devise and critically assess various research designs and explain, produce, and display descriptive statistics from various data sets.

Philosophy of Management
You will evaluate the factors that need to be considered in analysing a firm’s management philosophy. You will also describe how philosophy is relevant to, and impacts upon, the management, organisation and operation of a business; identify and address central philosophical issues posed by management theory and practice; and define and practise the methods of philosophy such as conceptual analysis, identification of presuppositions, assessment of knowledge claims and arguments, and ethical reasoning.

Personal Development Portfolio and Business Consultancy Project
This unit will focus on combining your theoretical knowledge and previous business experience to deal with high level business issues currently facing the corporate world. Through a series of training sessions, you will work collaboratively to improve upon your public speaking, networking and presentation skills and also learn how to deal with the media. Our dedicated MBA Careers Advisor will also work with you to help enhance your CV and interview technique. You will be responsible for collating your own portfolio of work for this course which can be demonstrated to potential employers. This course will also cover the analytical skills you will require for the Business Consultancy project which is the culmination of the taught elements of our MBA programme.

Assessment is carried out by a variety of methods including coursework, examinations and a dissertation. Some modules are assessed by in-class tests and group projects.

These services are provided by the School of Management in collaboration with The Careers Group, University of London – one of the biggest careers services in Europe.

The MBA Personal Development Portfolio is designed to build on the management skills you already have. The module incorporates training in presentation skills, CV writing, interview technique, negotiation, leadership, handling conflict and dealing with the media.
Our MBA Corporate Speakers are business leaders from a wide range of sectors. Previous speakers have come from: HSBC, Nomura, Xerox, Microsoft, DHL, Continental, Reuters, Capital One and Cap Gemini.

The MBA Careers Adviser is available throughout the year for individual careers coaching. Sessions take place at regular hours during the week, and students are free to book as many sessions as they require.

The MBA Mentoring Programme puts MBA students in touch with members of the local business community, who share their expertise and insight over the course of the year. This programme is ideal for students considering a career change or wishing to fully understand UK business culture.
