First degree : UK Lower Second Class Honours degree (2:2) or equivalent.

Alternative entry requirements:   Relevant professional qualifications and relevant experience in an associated area will be considered.
This course is appropriate either for students from a management background of from other disciplines – the arts and social sciences (e.g. psychology, sociology and economics), as well as science and engineering. It is also suitable for mature students with a good first degree and work experience. Those who have studied alternative disciplines to management or business should take the ‘Foundations of Modern Management’ unit during Induction Week to obtain the background knowledge required for this course.

Additional requirements:
• Work experience of at least one year full-time is desirable but not essential.
A successful applicant will usually have the following qualities:
• Students should be curious, confident and dedicated individuals, able to work in teams, analyse complex problems and integrate management and technology elements in their solutions.
• They need to be adaptable to different cultural and working environments, with a holistic view of how organisations can make the best use of existing and new information systems and technologies.
• They should also be ethically aware of the value of data, information and communication, and of good ethical practices and codes.
英语要求English language requirements :
IELTS score of 6.5 overall with 7 in writing, TOEFL (iBT) 88 overall with 26 in writing, or equivalent, for non-native English speaking applicants.

Course overview
This is an exciting course designed to equip you with a specialist understanding of the field of entrepreneurship. It is a theoretical course that builds on the research and teaching expertise of academics in the School of Management, and features units in specialist subjects, designed specifically for their relevance to contemporary entrepreneurship research, policy and practice. 

The course will provide you with some of the key skills and knowledge required to develop your own projects, whether it be starting a new organization or developing an entrepreneurial project within an existing organization, in either the public or private sector.

You will study four core and two elective units over the first two terms. In the summer term will you complete a dissertation, analysing an issue pertaining to the field of entrepreneurship in depth.

Core course units:
Business Opportunities, Ideas and Planning
You will be introduced to the basic theories and practices related to business planning and the entrepreneurial start-up process. In particular, emphasis is given to the discovery of business opportunities, the development and assessment of business ideas, the formation of founding teams, and the preparation of business planning.

Corporate Entrepreneurship
This unit critically evaluates corporate entrepreneurship, exploring the strategic and organisational models behind new venturing, innovation and strategic renewal. In doing so, you will examine both large and small company perspectives in the management of new business opportunities.

Methodology and Qualitative Research Methods
This unit examines key methodological debates in management research and the methods and techniques of qualitative data gathering and analysis. It examines the relationship between theory and method in research design and the nature of validation and reliability in the research process.

Quantitative Methods for Graduates
This unit provides you with the basic statistical concepts and procedures used in empirical research. It focuses on the need for statistical understanding in a practical context, and provides you with the confidence needed to employ data. You will also develop the background knowledge that is required to understand and apply the more specialised statistical methods used in graduate research.

Dissertation
The dissertation provides an excellent opportunity to analyse an issue pertaining to the field of entrepreneurship in depth and is written over the summer months. By the end of the dissertation, you will be able to plan and manage a project, define aims and objectives, identify appropriate data sources and collection methods, be aware of and deal with potential pitfalls, execute a dissertation plan, and construct an effective argument.

Elective course units:
International and Comparative Entrepreneurship
This unit examines the development of entrepreneurship in different geographical locations, with a strong emphasis on emerging market economies. Attention is paid to the impact of context and culture on entrepreneurial processes.

Responsible Entrepreneurship
You will study the role of entrepreneurship in society, focussing on entrepreneurial social responsibility, business ethics, small business and social enterprises. You will develop critical analysis skills to evaluate the role of entrepreneurship in society.

Technology Venturing
This unit will explore issues that are unique to entrepreneurs starting science and technology-based ventures. You will be taken you through the venture’s life cycle - from innovation through to exit and will have the opportunity to attend lectures by guest speakers and take part in case study exercises.

Foundations of Modern Management (Induction week course only)
You will be introduced to management in an integrative manner by identifying five elements important to the commercial success of an organisation - customers, shareholders, employees, numbers and technology. Through analysis of historical roots you will gain a better appreciation of current practice with regard to the first three elements; it also discusses how the remaining two can influence management decision-making.

On completion of the course graduates will have:
• a systematic understanding of current issues in entrepreneurship, informed by the forefront of the discipline and area of professional practice
• an in-depth and critical understanding of the entrepreneur, the entrepreneurial process, and the entrepreneurial event itself
• the ability to evaluate critically the relevant academic literature and gain a comprehensive understanding of key concepts in entrepreneurship research
• the ability to evaluate opportunities for developing new and innovative projects and an awareness of the different forms of support available to entrepreneurs
• an increased ability to shape business ideas and structure them into a plan of action
• an appreciation of the roles and responsibilities of different stakeholders and their impact on shaping the entrepreneurial process
• transferable organizational skills including working to deadlines, prioritising and delegating tasks, organising meetings and work time.

Assessment is carried out by a variety of methods including coursework (individual and group projects), examinations and a dissertation.

Our graduates are highly employable and, in recent years, have entered many different entrepreneurship-related areas. Graduates may find employment in existing businesses – i.e. large/multinational organizations (e.g. in product development/research) or in small-to-medium sized organizations (e.g. in business planning, growth, and operations/strategic management); they may create new businesses; they may work in areas pertaining to business support and advice (business planning and incubation, financing, skills training, firm internationalization); in entrepreneurship policy (promoting innovation and enterprise development); or in entrepreneurship research and education.

This course also equips you with a solid foundation for continued PhD studies.
