Brand Power
The rise and rise of brands, at both a local and a global level, has created many questions about the phenomenon. You can be at the forefront of such studies through this MA. It gives you the opportunity to examine the extraordinary growth  of the brand, its impact on society and how this relates to your own practice.

You are encouraged to carry out research from several different perspectives; psychology, fashion, product and Graphic Design. You will also explore branding in various contexts and consider its impact ethically, politically, culturally and economically. Your final research outcomes may be either practice or theory based.

We offer a great variety of MA titles, but best of all we give you the opportunity to work in a truly transdisciplinary environment. NTU gives MA students their own designated space, where you can meet students from different subject areas and obtain information and support from an MA coordinator and administrator. This makes it easy for you to work with your fellow students, learning the skills of collaborative and inter-cultural sensitivity.

Course content

This modular MA is designed to offer a framework for advanced study and to develop core skills in a number of areas, including:
•research methodologies
•the professional and cultural contextualisation of work
•practical project experimentation and realisation
•critical and reflective evaluation.

All skills are developed as the course progresses, with the aim of preparing students for a major MA individual or group research project.
Modules are designed to encourage interdisciplinary working. The context and research module, for example, is delivered to the entire postgraduate community, thus giving students the opportunity to exchange ideas and analysis. This form of dialogue is crucial for the development of new thinking and new directions in art and design.

Resources and facilities
The MA is hosted by the School of Art and Design, giving students access to a range of excellent dedicated facilities within the School, ranging from traditional media through to industry-standard digital technology centres. Facilities are supervised by skilled technical personnel.

How do you study?

You will work with specialist tutors who match your specific research interests. Our expert staff include design practitioners, theorists and teachers, and our courses are structured around lectures, workshops, and group and individual tutorials

We offer a range of initial projects that help to contextualise the key issues within Graphic Design today. These are supplemented with craft-skill enhancement workshops, enabling you to keep up-to-date with media. Workshops take place in both traditional and digital media areas such as web design and screen printing.

Industry links

Connecting with the design industry is incredibly important and we have excellent links. Our courses feature guest lectures from renowned designers who also set mini-projects as part of workshops. Such links are vital in helping you make future contacts and enhance your awareness of the design profession.

Research opportunities
This course promotes development towards MPhil and PhD.
