Econometrics is the application of mathematical and statistical techniques to economics. In recent years econometric methods have become especially important in economic analysis, whether conducted in universities or in the private sector.
The MSc is designed to equip you with the analytical tools required of a modern economist or econometrician. You will learn how to apply these techniques to research questions and will be trained in programming computers using specialist econometric software.
The School of Economics, Finance and Management has an internationally recognised track record in econometrics and applied research. Faculty members apply econometric methods to diverse fields such as international development, education and health economics and publish in the top international econometric journals.

Second Term
You can take:
•either Microeconomics
•or Time Series Econometrics
and:
•either Advanced Macroeconometrics
•or Advanced Microeconomics
and two further optional units. These may vary from year to year but currently include:
•Applied Public Policy Analysis
•Personnel Economics
•Public Organisations
•Topics in Development Economics
Third Term and Vacation
The MSc is completed with a research-based dissertation of up to 15,000 words. You will be able to determine your own research topic and employ techniques learned during the programme. The dissertation is written under the supervision of experienced research academics in the School.
