nformation Technology is increasingly a key element in effective education and training. The web, mobile devices, interactive white boards, Virtual Learning Environments, blogging, wikis and email are tools that you may be able to use in your teaching. But how effective are they at supporting learning?
Our course is aimed specifically at teachers, trainers and learning technologists. It will help you to use, research and manage multimedia and e-learning effectively whilst providing the skills, knowledge and understanding to enable you to make effective and informed decisions about how to use multimedia and e-learning to solve educational problems. This course was one of the first when it was established in 1997. We continue to develop the curriculum to ensure that it reflects current innovations and that you feel confident in using information and communication technologies (ICT) in education.

The course can usually be studied part-time in two or three years. If you prefer to study just one module per year, then the course will take six years to complete. Alternatively, if you have the support of your employer, you can study full-time and complete the course in one year.

Information about the modules:
-Understanding e-learning
This module gives an overview of the current technologies available for teaching and learning. You will complete a number of mini projects, some practical and some designed to develop your understanding of theoretical approaches to teaching and learning online.
-Action research
You will design and implement a technology-based intervention in a teaching and learning situation and research its effectiveness. For example:
•Evaluation of effectiveness of interactive whiteboards in teaching Year 3 mathematics.
•Development and evaluation of VLE materials for in Health and Community Studies BSc.
-Theory and evaluation of e-learning
This module is designed to explore the theoretical underpinnings of interactive educational media. You will evaluate the design of some commercially produced learning resources and develop a greater understanding of the students’ perspectives of learning using technology.
-e-Tutoring
For this module you will put together a portfolio summarising your experience of designing and delivering online learning. The module is practical but also covers the underpinning theoretical models which help you to understand how to teach effectively using web tools.
-Researching the development project
This module lays the groundwork for the development project which you will undertake. In this module you will learn more about research and evaluation methods, including quantitative and qualitative methodologies. You will identify the subject of your development project and plan the execution of the project.
-Development project
This project is a substantial piece of work which will take some aspect of your professional practice and examine how multimedia and e-learning approaches could be used effectively to support learning.
Examples of past projects include ‘Can podcasts support constructivist approaches to learning?’ and ‘An investigation into the use of social networking to promote the development of interpersonal skills of students in Higher Education’.

教学与评估 Teaching and Assessment：
The course is designed to allow busy professionals to integrate studying with all of the other demands on their time.
We use a combination of Saturday day schools, on-line and distance delivery. For part-time study there are normally seven Saturday day schools each year. Full-time study usually involves attending 11 Saturday day schools plus on-line and distance delivery.
Academic staff teaching on the programme have significant expertise in design and delivery of online courses. They are actively involved in research and in national and international developments in online and elearning.
Much of the work is project based with outcomes of direct relevance and benefit to your particular teaching or training setting.
You will have access to the University’s multimedia teaching suite, and the online resources of the library
