Normally a 2.1 Honours degree or equivalent recognised qualification, in Mathematics, Science, Engineering, Accountancy, Finance, Economics or other relevant quantitative subject. We welcome applications from a diverse range of applicants so will also consider previous work experience alongside academic qualifications.

•TOEFL* score of 92 (Internet-based test) with minimum scores of 21 for Listening, 22 for Reading, 23 for Speaking and 21 for Writing

The aim of this recently developed MSc is to prepare students to work in a sophisticated financial trading environment and equip students with the skills required for effective asset and risk management.
Accreditation
This MSc is accredited by two leading risk management associations (i) the Professional Risk Managers' International Association (PRMIA) and (ii) the Institute of Risk Management (IRM).
Internship
Students who successfully complete all taught modules are offered the opportunity to undertake a salaried four-month internship in a risk management environment. Students undertake work-based research projects on an aspect of risk management pertinent to the institution in which they are placed. This initiative blends university excellence with industry relevance.

The programme consists of eight compulsory modules and a dissertation or work-based research project.Modules include: Corporate Finance; Credit Risk Financial Regulation and Compliance; Introduction to Stochastic Processes in Finance; Money and Banking; Options, Futures and Other Derivative Securities; Research Methods; Understanding Liquidity Risk.

Assessment is by a variety of methods: eg individual coursework, group work, oral presentations, simulations, case studies, class tests, examinations and dissertation or work-based research project.

Opportunities for Careers
As many financial firms are substantially expanding their risk management functions, this degree is likely to open a broad range of new and exciting career opportunities. A broad variety of roles are available for MSc graduates, some will suit those with mathematical skills who wish to use cutting-edge quantitative modelling techniques and work in collaboration with traders to develop bespoke financial products. Others will involve portfolio and product risk management or monitoring firm-wide business risks either in-house or as part of an external regulatory team.
The first students graduated in December 2010 and all (seeking employment) have secured high-quality posts, most in risk management functions in companies such as: CitiGroup, Bank of America, New York Stock Exchange; Allstate Insurance Aviva Insurance, RBS, Mercer PLC, First Derivatives, BSkyB and Single Electricity Market, Regulatory Body, Ireland, Financial Services Authority (UK).
